5 Reasons To Take Care Of Your Car

A car is often a person’s most valuable possession. Even the most economical of vehicles cost upwards of $10,000 (and that is without extras like body corp insurance), so it goes without saying that taking care of your car should be near the top of your priority list. There are numerous reasons why you should take care of your car, but we will only be discussing five reasons for proper car maintenance.

A second reason to take care of your car is to keep its performance up to par. Cars that aren’t properly maintained don’t run as well as cars that are well cared for. Neglected cars may not get the kind of gas mileage you expect from a particular model. Routine maintenance will insure quick acceleration and consistent fuel and energy supply. Also, cars that aren’t adequately maintained will likely cause more pollution.

General Upkeep

The third reason to make sure your car gets regular maintenance< is to insure that it continues to run for a long time. Having to replace a car is a huge expense that most people aren't able to take on. Routine car maintenance often uncovers issues, such as a worn timing belt, that can become very expensive if they're left for too long.

Staying Safe

Safety is the fourth reason for properly caring for your vehicle. It is very important to have brake inspections to make sure your car is going to stop when you need it to. Regular tire rotations, tire balancing, and wheel alignments will extend the life of your tires and save you from having to replace your tires too soon. Tire maintenance is also important to safety because proper tread and tire pressure is what will keep your vehicle in contact with the road. Without that proper contact it can be easy to lose control of your vehicle. No matter how good your brakes are, if your tires aren’t contacting the road, you’re going to have difficulty getting your car to stop.

Maintaining Value

The fifth and final reason for regular vehicle maintenance ties in with the previous four reasons, and that is resale value. A car that looks good and runs well is going to be worth more when you want to sell it. A safe car will appeal more to buyers, and if you provide maintenance records, a buyer will feel confident that the car will last a long time for him or her.

In summary, five important reasons for taking care of your vehicle are aesthetics, performance, longevity, safety, and resale value.

First of all, let’s talk about aesthetics. Keeping your car clean, inside and out, will keep it looking nice. When you let your car get dirty, and leave it that way, it can damage the finish on the paint. Imagine all the tiny scratches left behind when a seemingly harmless prankster writes “wash me” in a layer of dirt on a vehicle. It also feels better to drive a nice looking vehicle than it does to drive one that doesn’t look good. Dirt and grit left inside the vehicle can cause wear to upholstery and carpeting. Spills that are left untended not only look bad, but can seep into crevices and cause damage. It can also be embarrassing to give someone a ride in a messy car.
