6 Tips You Should Know Before Touring Vietnam On A Motorbike

A lot of people ride the length of Vietnam on a motorbike and they get into trouble, so I’ve gave everyone a few great tips that will help their adventure go a lot smoother.

Before you run away to Vietnam on your motorbike adventure you should probably know a few things. You must be really excited at the moment because you’re in for the time of your life, but that doesn’t mean you don’t need to be prepared. All of these tips will help to keep you safe, which means your holiday will be a lot more fun. Don’t forget any of them unless you want to find yourself in trouble.

You need a budget

Unless you are rich you probably won’t want to waste all your money on a bike. Vietnam isn’t an expensive country and you will feel like a king, but it’s still important to have plenty of money with you during your journey. You can pick up a bike for almost any price once you land there, so decide what you want to pay before you even get off the plane and try not to go over your limit.

Keep your bag secure

When you’re traveling up and down a country you can’t just take a small backpack with you. That means you will need to find a way to secure your luggage to the motorbike. Hopefully you buy one with a rack already attached, but don’t worry if it doesn’t have one because there is an easy solution. Look around the city for a welder and they will make you something for a very good price.

Go for a test drive

It’s possible you might break down when you’re riding long distances on an inexpensive bike, but that doesn’t mean you should jump on one without testing it out first. It will save you a lot of hassle because you won’t need to look around in the middle of nowhere for a garage. Do your homework before you buy a bike, but once you’ve purchased it you should drive around for a few days before setting off on your journey.

Carry the papers

Don’t make the mistake of getting thrown in jail because a Vietnamese policeman thinks you’ve stolen the bike from somewhere. If you carry the correct papers with you it means you will be able to send them on their way without any trouble, or possibly a little bribe. The bribe will be because it’s illegal for you to own a bike, so the papers will have to be in a Vietnamese person’s name.

Stay under 175cc

You’re not actually allowed to drive anything over 175cc which I know might disappointed you, but the truth is that a less powerful bike is sufficient. You will be riding through some beautiful countryside and you want to take everything in. Don’t attempt to buy a bigger bike because there is much more chance of getting repeatedly stopped and you will need to carry around a lot of tea money.

Learn the basics

Don’t worry if you’ve never ridden a on a motorbike because you will pick it up pretty quick, but it’s still important to know how to do minor repairs yourself. Maybe you can ask someone to teach you about the basics before you jump on the plane. This isn’t crucial, but if you can fix something in 5 minutes instead of hanging around the side of the road for hours you will thank yourself.

Remember to enjoy yourself

Enjoy yourself because you will have the trip of a lifetime, but you must also be very careful because when you’re riding around on a motorbike it’s still dangerous. Stick to all the basic rules like driving sober, staying under the speed limit, and wearing the correct clothing to decrease your chances of becoming involved in an accident.
