Honda Cars India Ltd., a completely owned subsidiary of Japanese automobile manufacturer Honda Motor Co., launched Honda Amaze in the year 2013. It is a compact sedan and it is designed on the same platform as Honda’s hatchback, Brio. Amaze also marks Honda’s first-ever foray into the diesel segment in Indian automobile market.
However, the car is available in both petrol and diesel variants. The petrol version of Amaze is fitted with the 1.2 litre i-VTEC engines, while the diesel cars get their power from the 1.5 litre i-DTEC Earth Dreams engines. The complete range of Amaze has been expanded and available in 12 variants such as E, EX, S, SX (new), VX (petrol and diesel) and S AT and VX AT (petrol only).
The petrol variant of Amaze is fixed with a 1.2 litre, 4-cylinder, i-VTEC petrol engine, which delivers a maximum power of 87 bhp and a peak torque of 115 Nm. The engine is made of aluminium to reduce the weight and equipped with 5-speed manual transmission system. The diesel version of Amaze is fixed with i-DTEC engine that gives a maximum power of 99 bhp and a peak torque of 200 Nm. The fuel efficiency of the petrol variant of the car is around 15 to 18 kmpl, and the diesel version gives an incredible mileage of 25.8 kmpl.
The exterior and interior of the car is appealing to the eyes. The front seats are spacious and driver’s seat comes with features like height adjustment. The front seat’s back width has been curtailed to create more space at the back row. The rear seat has extra cushioning and three adults can travel comfortably.
The Honda Amaze is equipped with several safety features such as engine immobiliser, dual front and rear SRS airbags, anti-lock braking system (ABS) with electronic brake-force distribution (EBD) system, ventilated disc brakes at the front wheels and drum brakes at the rear wheels. It also offers front seat belt pretensioners with load limiter, driver seatbelt reminder, High Mount Stop Lamp, central locking system and child safety locks among others.
The Amaze also comes with special features like a 2-Din music system complete with USB, Aux-in and i-pod options. The factory-fitted music stereo system comes with four integrated speakers. It offers steering wheel mounted audio controls.
Honda Amaze competitors include cars like Maruti Suzuki Swift Dzire, Chevrolet Sail, Hyundai Grandi10 and Ford Fiesta.
Honda Amaze is a great package in terms of engine specifications, interior style, aesthetic looks and value for money car. Overall, the car looks peppy and is fun to drive even in city traffic conditions, which makes it an ideal car for the Indian roads.
