Honda: The Industry’s Safest Cars

Since we often use our cars as we go about our daily living, safety becomes a major concern – especially since the risk of encountering accidents on the road can be quite significant. However, if you are driving a Honda Accord or any other Honda car, you can be sure that you are driving one of the safest cars in the planet.

A Testament to Honda Safety – Awards and Recognitions

Honda is considered to be one of the automotive industry’s frontrunners when it comes to passenger safety. In fact, the Honda Accord has been awarded the Top Safety Pick+ award by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) and considered as one of the safest cars of 2013. The Acura TL, a luxury car created by Honda, also made it to the list.

The IIHS also conferred the 2012 Top Safety Pick award to the Honda Accord, Civic and Civic Si sedans based on their individual performances in the front/side crash and rollover tests. Significant weight was also given on the evaluations of seat and/or head restraints for protection against neck injuries in cases of rear impacts. The Honda Fit, Insight, Pilot, Odyssey and Ridgeline along with the CR-V and CR-Z were likewise given the same recognition.

The Honda Civic also made it to the ABC News’ list of the top 5 safest cars in 2010. Kelley Blue Book, a highly trusted automotive vehicle valuation company based in the US, also recognized the 2012 Honda Fit and the Honda Civic to be among the safest cars for teens.

Among the Honda cars that were given accolades for their superior safety features includes the following:

  • Honda Ridgeline and Honda CR-V – the first four-door pickup and the first compact SUV in North America that bagged a 5-star crash rating in frontal and side crash safety tests under the old NCAP standards
  • Acura MDX – the first midsize luxury SUV that earned a 5-star crash rating in frontal and side crash safety tests under the old NCAP standards
  • Accord Sedan and Accord Coupe – earned a 5-star overall vehicle safety ratings from the National Traffic Safety Administration (NHSTA) based on frontal/side crash and rollover categories

Honda Cars – What Makes Them Safe?

Aside from having bodies that are designed to reduce the impact of vehicular crashes, Honda cars, SUVs, minivans and trucks are all fitted with advanced safety features that enhance passenger protection. All Honda and Acura vehicles feature precise steering and superior braking capabilities, sophisticated airbag systems along with powerful seatbelts and head restraints. It is also actively developing technologies to further enhance passenger safety and keep Honda cars ahead of its class – especially in providing safety while on the road.
