Mahindra and Mahindra Limited (M&M) is an Indian multi-national automobile company. Starting with the assembling of the Willys Jeeps in 1947, they have come up a long way to be an important player in the Indian automobile market producing different types of automobiles.
M&M has produced and exported many models to several foreign countries. Mahindra Scorpio, first introduced in 2002, is their most sold-out utility model. In 2008, this 7-seater has undergone a face-lift. This ultimate off-road vehicle comes in 15 versions, including the 6-speed auto drive variant, VLX 4WD Airbag AT BS-IV, priced around Rupees 14 lakhs. This vehicle, with an orthodox styling, is a sub 4-metre vehicle with a ground clearance of 200 mm. Mahindra Thar, an affordable SUV with soft removable top, is another popular vehicle, and has three diesel variants priced between Rupees 4.8 and 7.4 lakhs.
Mahindra has also entered the hatchback/sedan market with the Vento and the Vent o Vibe. The Vento comes in both petrol and diesel models, priced from Rupees 5.35 to 7.88 lakhs. The Vento Vibe, launched in 2013, is a compact sedan with a large boot space. Mahindra e20 is an eco-friendly city car, which runs on 25 HP electric power, and is priced around Rupees 5.8 lakhs.
The MUVs – Bolero and Xylo have already proved very successful in the Indian utility vehicle market. The Bolero, launched in 2006, has 14 versions. It offers a fuel efficiency of 15.9 kmpl. The latest version of Bolero offers many safety and comfort features and is priced around Rupees 7.87 lakhs. The Xylo, launched in February 2012, is an MUV with large cabin and boot space. It has nine variants. The top-end versions have AC system, 2-DIN music system with FM radio and Bluetooth connectivity and a touch screen cruise control.
Mahindra Quanto is an SUV launched in 2012 with four diesel versions. This seven-seater gives a fantastic mileage of 17.1 kmpl. M&M has plans to launch a New Quanto in 2014 with some added features.
Mahindra XUV 500, launched in 2011, comes in four versions priced between Rupees 10.70 and 14.48 lakhs. The highest version has a cruise control, a manual AC, a 3-DIN music system with 6 speakers and FM radio and Bluetooth connectivity.
Mahindra use their tested engines – m 2DiCR engine, m Hawk diesel engine or the 1.5-liter Renault K9K engine, which give their cars better mileage. Their double wishbone type independent suspension at the front and the multi-link coil spring system at the rear, are well suited for the Indian roads. With the competition in Indian SUV market getting hotter in 2014, Mahindra & Mahindra is expecting a turnaround in their fortunes.
