Mahindra New Quanto is the most recent addition to the portfolio of Indian automobile giant Mahindra & Mahindra Limited. It is also the first ever sub-four meter multipurpose vehicle in the country.
The name Quanto is derived from the word Quantum which means enhanced space. This compact vehicle was launched in India in September 2012 and has been in demand since then.
Mahindra New Quanto is a shortened edition of the much popular Mahindra Xylo, but enhanced with further features and facilities. The rear layout is rather short making the car less than four meters in length. This helps it to take advantage of the excise duty subsidy which the Indian government has allotted to the sub-four meter vehicles. It can accommodate five people pretty comfortably, in addition to an option of two jump seats in the rear.
The Mahindra New Quanto is set apart with a 1.5 litre twin turbo-charged common rail diesel engine with three cylinders. It is able to produce about 100 bhp of peak power along with 240 Nm of torque. The engine is mated with a five speed manual transmission that would assist the car in delivering a mileage of 17.21 kilometres per litre. The acceleration produced and fuel efficiency is notable.
The first and second rows of the car are quite spacious with adequate leg space and headroom. The second and third row seats can be folded again and again to give variations of seating and storage space. There is power steering, power windows and high performing air cooling system with AC vents that are well spread. The high end variant comes with features like anti lock braking system, twin airbags, 6 spoke alloy wheels, steering -mounted audio controls, Bluetooth compatibility, music system with CD, MP3, USB & Aux, height adjustable driver’s seat and reverse parking assist. A spare wheel mounted outside on the tail gate gives the car all the looks of a sports utility vehicle.
Mahindra New Quanto is available in the market in four variants namely C2, C4, C6 & C8. These models differ in extra safety and luxury features; however the basic features are likely to be the same. The car falls in the price range of Rs 5.99 lakhs to Rs 7.80 lakhs, depending on the model. Maruti Swift, Hyundai i20, Maruti Suzuki Ertiga and Premier Rio are some of the other popular vehicles in this segment. But with competitive prices and appealing looks, Mahindra New Quanto is expected to face off against the likes of these competitors.
This car is best for buyers who want the street presence of a sports utility vehicle but need a smaller and easy-to-manoeuvre car, along with the promise of reliability and low cost ownership.
