Maruti Suzuki has revealed their new concept car Ciaz in the recently concluded 2014 expo, with an eye at the increasing demand for sedans in the Indian market. This will be a replacement for their earlier SX4 sedan. Maruti’s new sedan will be based on the Ertiga platform and will have a sporty appearance with fluidic body design. Maruti wants to increase their share in the upper A3 segment where the competition will come from the likes of Honda City, Hyundai Verna, Volkswagen Vento and Nissan Sunny.
Maruti has made the exterior of the Ciaz very attractive with features like extended head lamps, prominent and shining grille and an increased ground clearance. A new grille with five chrome plated slats with the logo at the centre is quite eye catching.
Projector head lamps, LED day time ring lights and turn lights are included in the head light cluster. Front bumper carries air dam and fog lights. Side profile is simple with a flowing crease line along the shoulder line and external wing mirrors integrated with turn indicators. Excessive chrome application on the window sills, the handles and the side mouldings make it sleek. Large tail lights flow into the rear fender merging with the shoulder line. Exhaust console on the rear bumper is a new feature.
The interior will have lighter shades with wood inserts and aluminum surrounds, an automatic AC, a stereo system with steering wheel controls, Bluetooth and AC vents for the rear seats.
Safety features include airbags, engine immobiliser, central locking and side impact beams. Hi-tech attractions expected are power windows with one touch operation, power steering with tilt function, electrically adjustable ORVMs, cooled glove box and remote fuel lid and trunk opening.
Six versions – LXi, LDi, VXi, VDi, ZXi and ZDi – are expected to come out with15″ regular wheels for the L series, 15″ alloys for the V and 16″ alloys for the Z variants. The Vx/Vd and Zx/Zd version will also have electric folding mirrors. The top variants will have auto climate control, sun glass holder, ABS+EBD, twin air bags and wood trim over the dash board.
The petrol version will have 1373 cc, 94 bhp, 130 NM maximum torque and the diesel variant will come with 1300 cc, 110 bhp, 290 NM maximum torque engines. The petrol model will race from 0 to 100 km in 12.1 and the diesel one in 15 to 16 seconds with maximum speeds of 170 kmph and 155 kmph respectively. The fuel economy will be 17 to 18 kmpl for the petrol and 21 to 23 kmpl for the diesel versions respectively.
Maruti is expected to launch the Ciaz in September 2014.
