Tata Indigo E-CS

Tata Indigo E-CS, from the stables of Tata Motors, was launched at the Auto Expo 2008, in New Delhi. This sedan can be availed at a price of 5 lakh approx. Tata Indigo E-CS is the “World’s most compact sedan”.

The Tata Indigo E-CS is available in two engine options. The petrol variant is equipped with an 1193cc MPFi engine that churns out 65 bhp of maximum power with 100 Nm of torque. The diesel variant is equipped with a splendid 1396cc CR4 diesel engine which churns out 70 bhp of maximum power with 140 Nm of torque. The other option available for diesel engine is the 1405cc TDi that gives out a power of 70 bhp with torque of 135 nm.

The sedan comes loaded with many features like instrument cluster with chrome rings, white alloy wheels, power steering and music system with Bluetooth and aux port. Its 5-Speed Manual transmission offers smooth and precise shifting of gears. The mileage is 25 kmpl. The motor car is equipped with safety features – anti-lock braking system, central locking, a set of airbags and an engine immobilizer.

Toyota Etios

Toyota Etios is one of the most popular mid-size sedans in the Indian market. It was rolled out in the country at the Auto Expo 2010, held in New Delhi by Toyota Kirloskar Motor Pvt. Ltd. Initially, it was called as EFC (Entry Family Car). The sedan boasts of the perfect amalgamation of good design sensibilities and unmatched global quality standards. The spacious interiors, innovative styling, superior ride quality and good mileage offered by Etios makes it one of the best fuel-efficient mid-sized cars in India.

The Etios is available in two engine options – the 1.5 liter DOHC engine that churns out 88.7 bhp at 5600rpm and maximum torque of 131.9 Nm at 3000 rpm and 1.4 liter ND-TV SOHC diesel engine. The engines are mated to 5-speed manual transmission. The petrol variant of Etios offers a promising mileage of 17.6 kmpl and the diesel variant 23.59 kmpl (both ARAI certified).

The Etios is designed thoughtfully to provide sufficient legroom and headroom. Ergonomically designed seats with integrated headrests enhance the comfort level of the car. It has many active and passive safety features such as remote central locking, power steering, rear defogger, steering adjustment, ABS with EBD, airbags and energy absorbing body shell.

Maruti Suzuki SX4

Maruti Suzuki SX4 is an impressive sedan with a sporty performance and masculine stance. The sedan, derived from the stables of Maruti Suzuki, is an A3 premium segment sedan which portrays the perfect blend of style, performance, safety and comfort. It was launched in 2007 in the domestic market.

SX4 is an electrifying surprise when it comes to performance. The diesel variant is equipped with a powerful and fuel-efficient super turbo DDIS engine that churns out 91.1 bhp power @ 4000 rpm with a maximum torque of 200 Nm @ 1750 rpm. It offers a mileage of 21.5 kmpl. The petrol variant is equipped with DOHC 16 valve VVT engine that churns out a maximum power of 106 bhp @ 5600 rpm. The SX4’s petrol version runs 15.5 kmpl.

The Maruti SX4 can be considered one of the best cars for Indian roads owing to its performance, mileage and low-cost of ownership. It has many safety features like child-lock on rear door, iCATS, dual front bags, height adjustable front seat belt, side impact protection beam, ABS and EBD.

The Tata Indigo E-CS, Toyota Etios and Maruti Suzuki SX4 are considered to be the top three fuel-efficient, mid-sized family sedans in India. They offer good mileage and are sensibly priced.
